The Experiment is more than a Summer Abroad – For more than 77 years, Experiment in International Living programs have engaged high school students in profoundly moving educational journeys of cultural exploration and discovery. Each 3-5 week summer program in 30 countries around the globe immerses participants in the daily life of another culture and fosters fun and meaningful connections across national, linguistic, and cultural borders. During an Experiment summer, students gain self-confidence, build communication skills, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world.
A Leader in the Field of International Education
The Experiment in International Living is a program of World Learning, a non-profit international educational services and training organization based in Brattleboro, Vermont. As a pioneer in international education for young people, The Experiment is one of the oldest programs of its kind in the world. In 1932, a small group of young Americans traveled across the Atlantic fueled by the power of an idea. Their mission was to foster peace through understanding, communication, and cooperation. After 77 years and more than 70,000 participants, The Experiment continues to be a leader in the field of international cross-cultural education for high school students.
"Thank you for the experience that The Experiment made possible for our son. His consciousness was raised in so many ways. He has now connected with a part of himself that is identified with what I might call global citizenship."
