Programs by Focus Area

EXCHANGE ideas and make a difference in the lives of others.

Each Experiment program offers students an opportunity to focus on an aspect of the host culture and to become an active participant in the communities they join. Select a program below, or use our program guide, world map, or interactive list to find the Experiment summer program that is right for you.

Our areas of focus include:

LANGUAGE TRAINING

Achieve the kind of fluency that can only happen when you’re immersed in a language day-to-day. Study in small groups, take part in language exercises, and participate in out-of-class learning activities like exploring Sapporo with Japanese language partners, improving your Spanish through theater, or seeing— and understanding—an opera in Italy.

ARTS EXPLORATION

Develop your creativity and hone your artistic talents in new and exciting surroundings. Spend your summer cooking in Italy, acting in France, or learning to weave in Morocco; no matter which of our artistic programs you choose, the inspiration of your host country and its people will stay with you forever.

ECO-ADVENTURE

Study local ecological issues and gain a deeper understanding of our planet’s beauty, diversity, and fragility. Maybe you’ll choose to work beside an Ecuadorian ecologist in the Galápagos or canoe through Botswana’s Okavango Delta—or maybe you see yourself snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef or working at a Costa Rican turtle sanctuary. No matter which program you choose, it will leave a lasting mark— even if your personal footprint gets lighter as a result.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Make a real difference in the lives of the people in your host country by volunteering on a project designed by a local community organization. Whether you choose to teach English in a rural Thai village, work at an orphanage in Peru, or help renovate a community center in Ghana, you will build relationships and gain skills that will transform the way you see the world.

TRAVEL & DISCOVERY

It’s not what you see—it’s what you do. Enrich your understanding of the host country by traveling to significant cultural, natural and historical sites. Whether you discover sacred Aboriginal customs in the Australian Outback, trek through the Swiss Alps, study ethnic minority villages in China, or hike the Road to Santiago in Spain, you experience much more than you ever could on a traditional tour.
