Belize Program
Welkom da Belize.
Belize is a tropical developing nation of pristine jungles, ancient ruins, diverse
wildlife, and a fascinating mix of cultures and languages.
- Canoe the Sibun River and visit a monkey sanctuary
- Renovate and refurbish community buildings in a remote village
- Visit the Lamanai Mayan ruins
- Snorkel with manatees and dolphins off Tobacco Caye
Orientation at the Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
Your rugged adventure begins in a tropical wildlife sanctuary. Local experts and your village ambassador provide an introduction to sustainable living technologies, biodiversity conservation, and the people and culture of Belize. During afternoon excursions, visit ancient Mayan ruins, swim in the Sibun River, explore the Tiger Sandy Bay caves, and witness Black Howler Monkeys in their natural habitat.
Homestay and Community Service
Embrace family life as you spend two weeks in Crooked Tree, a rural Belizean village on an island in the middle of a lagoon. In partnership with villagers, work on a community development service project to improve conditions for your new family and friends.
Sample service projects:
Build a playground at a village school; restore a community center; work on a sustainable community development project; construct ecotourism facilities; research and prepare signs for natural history sites.
Travel and Discovery
After your homestay and community service project, spend a few days exploring and enjoying the natural wonders of Belize.
Sample activities: Cruise from island to island off the coast of Belize; enjoy the warm beaches of Tobacco Caye; snorkel, sail, and swim in the clear blue waters of the Caribbean; visit the Western Caribbean Marine Research Station.
"Instead of feeling like a visitor, I really felt like part of a big village family."
