Spain: Spanish Arts and Culture Program

Orientation in Madrid
Your adventure begins with an action-packed, three-day orientation in Madrid. Put your Spanish to use as you order tapas in a local café, ask for directions to the Palacio Real, and explore the city’s medieval streets. Visits to incredible museums on the “museum mile,” discussions in city parks, and exploration of diverse neighborhoods strengthen your understanding of contemporary Spanish life and culture. Your orientation concludes with a full-day excursion to historic Toledo.

Spanish Arts and Culture
After your orientation in Madrid and Toledo, travel to Andalucia. For three and a half weeks, you will be engaged in the artistic and cultural traditions of this lively region. A two-week homestay and 12 days of activities focused on art, music, dance, theater, and ceramics give you a deeper insight into Spanish culture, dance and music. Participate in traditional dance and folklore celebrations, taste regional dishes, and visit the Alhambra. In the final week, explore Catalonia from the Costa Brava to the fascinating city of Barcelona.

Sample activities: Participate in a flamenco workshop; explore the countryside on horseback; create pottery in a traditional factory; marvel at the works of Gaudí, Picasso, and Miró; relax on the beaches of Coma-Ruga; enjoy the bustle of Barcelona’s Olympic Harbor.
