Italy

Benvenuti in Italia.
A summer abroad in Italy will help you to learn to speak Italian while immersed in a rich and dynamic culture. All programs include travel with a group and a homestay with an Italian family.

The Experiment offers 3 different programs in Italy. All groups begin their Italian immersion with an interactive group orientation in Rome and then travel to different regions for homestays.  Homestays are individual, but groups get together regularly for cultural events, outdoor activities and visits to local historical sites.

In the Italian Language program students take Italian classes for a week before their immersion homestay.  The other two programs focus on Italian food and cooking.  In the “Taste of Italy” program students learn about food, culture and biodiversity.  The “La Dolce Vita” program allows students to learn about gelato and production of other Italian desserts.

"One night I went for a walk with my host sister, Frederica. Suddenly, we came upon a sweet aroma. Frederica explained that it came from 'The Nut,' a little pastry shop that stayed open late. We entered and were delighted! Frederica began translating items on the menu that hung behind the counter. She described a 'bomb' (a doughnut filled with crème or custard), pastries, white chocolate-filled crescents, and even fresh crepes filled with candy or fruit. After that night, we spent most evenings in the piazza, enjoying our warm desserts and talking about life."
