"Thank you for the experience that The Experiment made possible for our son. His consciousness was raised in so many ways. He has now connected with a part of himself that is identified with what I might call global citizenship."
—Kate Daniels, Nashville, TN, Experiment parent

A leader in the field of international education
The Experiment is one of the oldest programs of its kind. In 1932, a small group of young Americans traveled across the Atlantic fueled by the power of an idea. Their mission was to foster peace through understanding, communication, and cooperation. After 80 years and more than 70,000 participants, The Experiment continues to be a leader in the field of international cross-cultural education for high school students.
More than a summer abroad
Experiment in International Living programs engage high school students in profoundly moving educational journeys of cultural exploration and discovery. Each program immerses participants in the daily life of another culture and fosters fun and meaningful connections across national, linguistic, and cultural borders. During an Experiment summer, students gain self-confidence, build communication skills, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world.
The World Learning family of programs
The Experiment in International Living is the founding program of World Learning, a nonprofit organization advancing leadership through education, exchange, and development programs in more than 60 countries. In addition to The Experiment, the World Learning family of programs includes SIT Study Abroad, SIT Graduate Institute, World Learning International Development Programs, and World Learning International Exchange Programs.
