Community Service Programs

Participants paint wall mural Learn about important concepts of community development, tolerance through multiculturalism, social service, sustainable development, and fair trade as you work on a project designed by local institutions and the people they serve.

Sample projects from Summer 2008:
The Argentina Photography group taught a 6th grade class about pinhole photography; from making the cameras, to photographic technique, to developing the photographs in a darkroom. The project culminated in a photography exhibition in which the pinhole work of the San Francisco students and the digital work of the Experimenters were on display in an open venue. In Belize Experimenters painted a community health clinic; women's center and village museum. In Botswana Experimenters renovated the youth center and worked on a mural. The Brazil Soccer group helped improve the indoor soccer courts at a youth center creating a new garden. Experimenters in Ghana helped re-furbish a newly establish orphanage. In Spain Experimenters assisted at a Red Cross summer camp for immigrant and low-income children. In Thailand Experimenters created lesson plans and taught English at the local school. Experimenters in Turkey painted and repaired the interior of the village school to make it ready for the upcoming school year.
